Boxing
Boxing is a core Battalion sport. Our team of boxers compete in the Army Individual Championships. The opportunities to box in the Battalion are great if you’re good enough.

Football
The Battalion has had one of its most successful football seasons ever, having reached the quarter-final of the Army major unit’s cup. They then went all the way to the final of the Infantry Cup, losing narrowly 1-0. However they picked up some silverware at the 5 Division sixes and went on to achieve a creditable semi-final place at the Infantry sixes. Pte Bailey, Lance Corporal Perkin, Cpl Manzoni and Lieutenant Kearns have at some stage of the season been members of the Infantry squad with Lieutenant Kearns representing the Army.

Cricket
The Battalion cricket team is eager to build on a strong season last year after reaching the semi-final of the Army Cup. Lance Corporal Bateman, Lance Corporal Cupid and Privates Williams, Rylance and Prichard representing the Infantry. In addition, the batting and bowling prowess of Lance Corporal Cupid resulted in him being selected to play for the Army.

Adventure Training
In the last 12 months the Battalion has conducted overseas expeditions to the Andes in Peru and the Canadian Rockies, company adventure training to Newquay in Cornwall and is planning to conduct a trekking expedition to the Himalayas.

Last Autumn the Battalion simultaneously sent soldiers trekking up to 5,200 metres above sea level in the Peruvian Andes and kayaking in the white water of the Canadian Rockies. Both expeditions lasted three weeks and provided all those involved with a challenging and rewarding experience.

Annually every company in the Battalion conducts a weeks Adventure Training in the UK. Last year it was to Cornwall. In 2004 the destination is likely to be Pembroke. A major Army expedition to the Himalayas is being supported by 1 STAFFORDS with a number of soldiers trekking to Everest base camp next year.
