Supergames 2005 Auckland New ZealandThe third World Supergames took place in Auckland, New Zealand 4-12 March 2005.  The Army Martial Arts Association has always supported these games and this year, for the first time, was able to field not only a Karate team but also a Taekwondo team as well.

Cross-training...SPORTING siblings Sgt Tony Cross (Logistic Support Squadron, RM) and Gary Cross (former RAOC) are planning to complete a 150-mile canoe from Tamworth to Little Venice in London to raise funds for Birmingham Children’s Hospital and the Proteus Syndrome Foundation.
Pushing off on April 20 in a Canadian open style canoe, the brothers will have to negotiate three tunnels and 114 locks during their nine-day journey.

First Blood to Champs... REIGNING Army heavyweights 2 RGJ began the defence of their Army novice championship crown by claiming the Northern Ireland title with an 8-1 victory over 4 R Irish. As SoldierSport went to press, 2 RGJ were preparing to face 1 Para at Ballykinler in the semi-finals of the UK competition.

 


Capital canter...ST Dunstan’s, the charity for blind ex-Servicemen and women, is recruiting runners to take part in the fifth annual British 10k London Run on July 3.

Treble challenge...SHELTER, the housing and homelessness charity, is looking to recruit teams of soldiers to scale the highest summits in England, Wales and Scotland as part of its annual Three Peaks Challenge.
Open to teams of four and six people and held from May 20-22, the stamina-draining challenge involves climbing Scafell Pike’s 978m, Snowdon’s 1,085m and Ben Nevis’s 1,344m.
