History of the AGA

Records of Army golfing events date back to the early 1880s and the Army Golf Club was formed in Aldershot in 1883.  Major Army tournaments have been run since the early 1900s - the Army Golf Challenge cup, one of the oldest team golfing trophies in existence, was first competed for in 1903.

For many years Army golfing tournaments were organised and run by the Army Golfing Society.  The Army Golf Association was formed in 1973 to cater for golfers of all ranks both serving and retired and it now organises Army and Association tournaments each year for its 3000+ members.
