Chaplaincy support - is available for all involved in dealing with casualties. This support is confidential and outside of the Chain of Command. Chaplains provide support to all regardless of faith and can be contacted via the unit. In case of difficulty contacting your unit Chaplain please email Padre Christian.
Operational Welfare -In order to compensate individuals for the special circumstances applying to service in Northern Ireland some additional measures are available to those serving in resident garrisons and on emergency roulement tours. Some measures are also available for certain emergency tours overseas.
Confidential Support Line - Confidential Support Line (CSL). The CSL is a free-phone help-line run by SSAFA-FH for soldiers and their dependants. It was set up principally to address issues associated with harassment and Equal Opportunities, but its help-liners can provide support and advice with any emotional or psychological problem.
Money Matters - Financial information for all soldiers.
Non-Public Welfare Funds -The Army has access to monies from a number of non-public funds held mostly in Trusts and which can be used for in-service welfare purposes.
Legal Matters - In the UK Army personnel and their families are in exactly the same position as any other citizen. You are subject to the law of the land. However, Army personnel are also subject to military law.
Leave - Leave is approved and recorded absence from duty. It is just the same as holiday in a civilian job. The Army, however, has many different types. Find out about it here to make sure you are not losing out!
Healthcare- As a Regular soldier or on FTRS, you are entitled to receive free medical and dental care to a standard at least as high as that in the NHS.
Single Living Accommodation - As a single soldier you will live in a mess or a barrack block (Single Living Accommodation (SLA)). However, if no such accommodation is available, civilian accommodation (known as Substitute Single Service Accommodation (SSSA)) will be found by an accommodation agency appointed by the MOD, and you will be paid a Food and Incidentals Allowance (FIA). The charges for SLA are recommended by the Armed Forces’ Pay Review Body (AFPRB) and are reviewed annually.
Education for career Development -The Education for Promotion Scheme (EFP) is a compulsory course for all non-commissioned officers which must be passed before they are eligible for promotion.
Education for Personal Development -The Army is a major National employer that is keen to ensure that its soldiers are given the best possible opportunity for personal development and to obtain civilian qualifications. This is achieved in a number of ways.
