The Army accepts that married soldiers are happier when accompanied by their family, so it is policy a soldier’s family should be given the opportunity to travel with him/her, on posting, whenever possible. As a soldier and family may move regularly to different parts of Great Britain and overseas, the Army ensures that accommodation is provided for those families who require it. This is known as Service Families Accommodation (SFA), although it may also be referred to as Married Quarters (MQs) or Families Quarters (FQs).
