JPA BCDT AND BCDT INSTR QUALS (14 Dec 07)

Now the Army has changed from Unicom to JPA the Qualifications have changed as well. Their are now 2 Qualifications for the BCDT. They are as follows: Battlefield Casualty Drills Trainer (Instructor) a BCDT who is either at the BCDT School in Gosport or an RTC who delivers BCDT MATT3 to Student BCDT MATT3's or DMSTC BCDT Instructors who deliver the BCDT Course to CMT1's. Then their is the normal BCDT MATT3 these are BCDT's who deliver MATT3  training to Officers and Soldiers in the Unit. Both of these Qualifications can be found on JPA in the Box marked group then put in AMS and look at all of the qualifications you should find Battlefield Casualty Drills Trainer MATT3 (Instructor). And also Battlefield Casualty Drills Trainer MATT3. The normal MATT3 Quals are still Part A & B Levels 1,2,3.

FIT FOR COURSE RISK ASSESSMENTS BCDT (17 Dec 07).  

A Risk Assessment was carried out for the BCDT MATT3 Course for MOD. Any person who is medically downgraded should report to their Unit Medical Officer and is to produce an F-MED 566 annotated “Fit to attend Course and exercise phase”. Any Servicewomen who are pregnant are advised not to attend the course. This is due to the arduous nature of the training.

OVER TIGHTENING OF THE NEW ELASTICATED BANDAGE (23 Oct 07)

From the GSME Colonel Hodgetts L/RAMC Please include when you are teaching the new elasticated bandage that "over tightening can have the same effect as applying a Tourniquet and may cut off circulation". If the bandage is to tight then loosen off until circulation is seen.

CHECKING OF POCKETS WHEN APPLYING THE CAT (30 Nov 07)

All BCDT's when teaching the CAT are to ensure that when they are teaching the applications on lower limbs that all Pockets on the side of the injured limb must be emptied before tightening the CAT. Failure to do so may render the CAT in-effective

NEW MORPHINE AUTO INJECTOR (30 Nov 07)

Watch this space as their is talk of a stand in auto injector as we are starting to run out and we will take on the American version which is the same as ours. As soon as we know what it looks like we will place a picture on the website and a small video clip for you the trainer to update yourself we are looking early next year (2008).Drills will stay the same.

GENERAL RELEASE NEW COMBAT APPLICATION TOURNIQUET (CAT) AND NEW ELASTICATED FFD LARGE (04 Sept 07)

The new FFD NSN is 6510-99-332-2032 (FFD Large) and the new CA Tourniquet (CAT) NSN is 6515-01-521-7976 CAT are now on General Issue. The old First Field Dressing is now obsolete. You are advised that your QM's may order these new items for Training purposes as well as Operations however you are advised for training purposes use up your old FFD's first and complement your training with the new FFD's at a ratio of 4 FFD's to 8 pax and these new FFD's can be used several times over. The old Samways anchor is now also obsolete and should be destroyed.

You are asked to do this for the next 6-12 months to allow stocks to build up with MOD Med IPT DLO. However those Units on Op Herrick OP TELIC have priority and can order 2 FFD and 1 CAT per soldier.

REGIONAL TRAINING CENTRES (RTC'S) (30 Nov 07)

Regional Training Centre’s, BCDT MATT3 TSA Inspections: All RTC's accredited with the delivery of BCDT MATT3 are due there annual inspection from the TSA BCDT (Gosport) If you have not furnished the Team Leader BCDT MATT3 with your dates, now is the time to do so. This is for Trg year 07/08 and also now looking for date’s 08/09 tel 02392-765202 or 9380-65202

JAW THRUST 2 PERSONS (27 Jul 07)

When teaching the Jaw thrust you must as the BCDT emphasise the reason why two personnel are used to carry out this maneuver "one to carry out the Jaw Thrust. The second person to listen and feel for the breathing as well as continuing with the drills and treatment.
