The Regiment has won 88 battle honours, from those won in the War of the Spanish Succession to that awarded for the Gulf War. It should be noted that the practice of awarding battle honours only started in the late 18th Century and those awarded in retrospect were few.

The full title of the Regiment is
Royal Scots Dragoon Guards
(Carabiniers & Greys),
with Carabiniers pronounced 'Carbiniers' (no 'a').

This stems from the 6th Dragoons, who were honoured in 1691 with the title 'Kings Carabiniers' . The word originates from carabin or light musket with which some regiments of Horse were equipped. This was soon corrupted to 'carbine' and hence 'Carbiniers'

The title has its equivalent in that of 'fusiliers' bestowed as an honour on certain infantry regiments.
