For over three hundred years, The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers and Greys) has fought in famous battles that form part of our nations's history. The sacrifices the Regiment has made and its distinguished record should be remembered. Nowhere else could this tribute be better recognised than within the Regimental Museum in Edinburgh Castle.
The new museum will form a valuable addition to our National Heritage where present and future generations can reflect on the conflicts of the past. I wholeheartedly endorse and encourage this ambitious project to secure the Regiment's remarkable heritage and hope that you will join me in giving your support.

The creation of the Regiment's museum in Edinburgh Castle in 1995 was a most significant achievement. It has been very well received and greatly appreciated by the Regiment and public alike. However its full potential has never been realised because of restricted access. Recently the Edinburgh Castle Development Plan has further constrained this access,. which is being maintained only by a temporary walkway. Change is now essential.
We have been extremely fortunate to be allocated excellent new premises within the Castle, which will have direct access to the main flow of visitors. We need to grasp fully this opportunity. There is real scope for this Regimental Museum to reflect our motto "Second to None".
The Heritage Lottery Fund has generously supported the detailed professional planning of this new museum. We confidently expect that it will support the main appeal. However substantial funds are also required from other sources. The cost of the project is estimated at £1,240,000. Our target is to attract 300,000 visitors per year to an exemplar of modern military museums.
