We offer Look at Life placements at most of our band locations and at the Royal Military School of Music. Candidates can expect to gain a good insight into life as a musician within the Army. They will take place in rehearsals and engagements and be given an insight into the training processes of our musicians.
The Army is the largest employer of musicians within the UK with 1155 employees. Musicians not only experience a stable working environment, they benefit from a structured career path with training, to enable them to maximise their full potential.
Look at Life weeks are run throughout the year. Musicians visiting us need to be 14 years of age and over. They need to be grade 5 or above on their chosen musical instrument to get the most out of the week.
Once you've applied for Look at Life, we will send you a detailed explanation of how your week is laid out and what to expect.
On Wednesday’s, we try to visit one of our bands based in or around London. It maybe one of the Foot Guards bands to watch Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace or perhaps the Mounted Bands, it depends on availability.
Army Musicians can expect to work within a professional music environment daily, whether it is in the rehearsal room or performing in public. Our musicians are expected to perform within numerous ensembles from the Symphonic Wind Band to the String Orchestra, Big Band, Choir, Woodwind and Brass Quintets, Pop Groups and Jazz Bands. What ever their interests, Army Musicians are given every opportunity to pursue their love of music.
