A good musician without qualifications is more use to us than a poor musician with a lot of paper qualifications.
So, regardless of formal qualifications, you may qualify by audition alone. Show us you have the potential we're looking for and we will help you to develop it to the full. After you've completed testing and medical screening at your Army Careers Information Office (ACIO) an audition will be arranged for you at the Royal Military School of Music at Kneller Hall.
The audition process lasts 2 days and includes:
- A theoretical paper - equates to Grade 5 standard. (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music)
- An aural perception assessment
- You will be asked to prepare two contrasting pieces of music to play at audition; on your primary instrument and on your secondary instrument if you play one
- Scales
- Sight-reading assessment.
- A formal interview with the Personnel Selection Officer (PSO)
No audition is comfortable for any musician. However, in spreading the process over two days, we hope you will feel less pressured, and also have the opportunity to 'get the feel' of the Royal Military School of Music and experience something of our outlook. Auditionees will be notified of the result by formal letter.
