The Royal Yeomanry

W ( Westminster Dragoons) Squadron

The Westminster Dragoons are one of the five squadrons that form the Royal Yeomanry.  Based in Central London near Sloane Square in Chelsea, the squadron has a long and distinguished past stretching back over 100 years and is an important part of the Royal Armoured Corps.

Cap Badge

The squadron, along with A Squadron of the Royal Yeomanry, fulfils an important role in NBC (Nuclear, Biological and Chemical) defence and works closely with the Regular Army Joint Services NBC specialists, 1RTR. In addition, the Squadron trains in all the traditional roles of a Royal Armoured Corps light reconnaissance unit providing accurate and timely information to the battlefield commander. In recent years the squadron has exercised with American troops, both within the US and UK and frequently exercises with our regular army counterparts.

As a soldier in the Westminster Dragoons you will be trained in all the core skills found in a trained soldier, regular or TA. We will supply you with all the equipment and uniforms you will require, including those for ceremonial and specialist duties and training.

In addition to your basic soldiering skills you will have the opportunity to learn a further variety of skills and trades essential to a soldier of the Royal Armoured Corps. This includes reconnaissance, skills at arms, signals and driver training.

Come and visit the squadron on any Wednesday evening from 7.30 pm or contact us  if you wish to see how you could benefit from joining the Westminster Dragoons.
