Downhill and cross-country skiing are particularly well supported in the Royal Signals, both as a competitive sport and as a challenge pursuit. Competitive skiing is concentrated in Germany and we have a very experienced team in 16th Signal Regiment based in Rheindahlen, Germany. The Games Club provides generous help to ensure our soldiers compete with the very best of equipment. All Royal Signals units can send teams to the Army's series of competitions culminating in the Army Championships held in France and Austria every year. Royal Signals officers and soldiers also make up a significant proportion of the Army Ladies Ski Team who compete annually against the other Services. Snowboarding is now also appearing as a major competitive activity on snow. |

Once the basic skills are mastered, there is the challenge of travelling into the wilder parts on one of the many expeditions throughout the world. These skills of survival in a harsh environment are also a vital element of winter warfare training that is a popular activity for Germany based units.
