Introduction - Some History...

Windsurfing in the Royal Signals became a recognised sport in the early 1980's, with many soldiers windsurfing at all standards by the late 80's. It was a normal occurrence to have 50+ windsurfers on the start line for the annual Royal Signals Inter Unit Windsurfing Championships.

Not so long ago, the Royal Signals Windsurfing Team was amongst the best of the Corps Teams in the Army, racing against other Corps' and winning numerous Inter-Corps Championships.

The passage of time, leading to experienced windsurfers leaving the Corps, and operational demands placed upon many Royal Signals units, has led to a shortage of experienced windsurfers to carry on the successes of the Corps Windsurfing Team. Whilst this is unfortunate, there is a very positive consequence, as it now gives an excellent opportunity for windsurfers of all levels to get involved in Corps Windsurfing and compete at numerous competitions throughout the year.

A number of Royal Signals soldiers have taken advantage of the opportunities for courses and competing just recently and should improve with practice and time on the water.  If you are interested in windsurfing at any standard, then please get in touch.
