COURSES
The number of windsurfers in the Corps has declined in recent years and whilst windsurf racing is still important, the main focus for the Corps has changed towards teaching and training, to bring beginners into the sport and to improve intermediate windsurfers, by encouraging people to go on the windsurfing courses and get qualified. The Corps invested in new equipment recently for the purpose of giving novices and intermediate windsurfers the right kit on which to learn and develop their skills. Included in the Corps windsurfing fleet, are 5 F2 Discovery boards, a selection Tushingham Lightning rigs and Arrows Craze rigs. Race rigs include 4 Starboard Formula boards, 4 AHD Formula boards, 4 Bic Techno Formula boards, Neil Pryde rigs up to a maximum sail size of 10.4m, X-15 Tushingham 10.8m and a Tushingham Spitfire 11m rig.
Windsurfing courses are run at various venues throughout the year, with the Army Dinghy and Windsurfing Centre (ADWC) at Netley, on Southampton Waters, being the main focus for most courses for all serving soldiers. The Corps is running course in Germany in June and in the UK in July. The 2007 windsurfing courses available at the ADWC are now available from the link.
Visit the Army Windsurfing website for training and courses information, and much more. Thorney Island Watersports Centre also runs numerous courses, details of which can be gained by visiting their website at TIWSC .
