Branch Information Managers
& Branch Web Editors

The Corps Colours
Volunteers are needed to fill the posts of Branch Information Manager and Branch Web Editor within most branches. If after reading the information on this page you wish to volunteer, please contact your Branch secretary or Association Headquarters at: rsa@royalsignals.mod.uk

Branch Information Manager

A Branch Information Manager(BIM) is a semi computer literate person, who is prepared to type up information (or scan in and convert to text) and provide photographs to either the nominated Branch Web Editor or the Royal Signals Webmaster.

This information can be in the form of a text or Word document or an e-mail. The BIM DOES NOT need to know how to create a web page. That is the responsibility of the Royal Signals Webmaster or Branch Web Editor.

Ideally the BIM will have access to the Internet, though if this is a problem information can be copied to Floppy Disk or CD and posted.

If you are not a member of a Branch, but would like to offer your services to a branch, then again please contact the Association Headquarters.

We are currently looking for BIM's for:

Brighton Coventry Edinburgh Guernsey
Hartlepool Jersey Nottingham Salisbury
Scarborough Southport Winchester

Branch Web Editor

A Branch Web Editor is a computer literate person, who is prepared to use the information provided by the BIM and create/update web pages using the Army Content Management System (ACMS). ACMS does not require the installation of web editing software, instead it uses Internet Explorer, which is installed as standard on all Windows based computers.

A knowledge of building a web page in Front Page or Dreamweaver is a bonus but is not essential, as there is a downloadable guide to using ACMS available online. Branch Web Editors must be able to crop and resize photos. This can be done within ACMS, but is much easier if done with a simple photo editing package. These can be obtained off the Internet.

The Branch Web Editor MUST have access to the Internet. This does not have to be a Broadband connection.

If you are not a member of a Branch, but would like to offer your services to a branch or branches, then again please contact the Association Headquarters.

Commitment

If you are reading this article then you have already passed the first test. We know that committing yourself to helping a Branch may seem like a lot of work, however you are wrong. Most branches have 3 web pages, a Home Page, Committee page and events page. In addition Branches may have a few photo galleries, a history page an AGM page, Branch minutes and a contacts pages.

Of these the events page will need updating once every 2 months, the home page needs reviewing every 3-6 months and the committee page may need updating annually. Amending a page takes a few minutes. Creating a page can take up to 30 minutes.

If you ever get stuck the Royal Signals Webmaster and his assistant are available during working hours to fix the problem.

In total your commitment to a branch will be no more than a weekends work a year. If you are interested please contact Association Headquarters at: rsa@royalsignals.mod.uk or the Royal Signals Webmaster at: webmaster@royalsignals.mod.uk
