Officers in Royal Signals are highly skilled professionals, well-versed in the ways of modern combat and warfare; they are managers and co-ordinators of sophisticated communication and IT systems; and they are leaders – the people that men and women under their command turn to for leadership, motivation, inspiration, guidance and support.
Life as an officer in the Royal Corps of Signals will never be dull, as the challenge it offers is second to none. On commissioning into the Corps you will be posted to your first unit where you may take command of a Troop of up to 50 highly skilled communications specialists and up to 20 communications vehicles.Within your first tour as a Troop Commander you will be responsible for the soldiers in your troop; you will have to build on their individual strengths and talents and develop your soldiers to create a close-knit, smooth-running and hard working team whose priority is its mission. There will also be plenty of opportunity to play sport, organise and participate in adventurous training, and enjoy the excellent social life of a young officer.
As an officer in the Royal Signals you will need to be motivated, professional, responsible and confident. You must have the right temperament to handle the most demanding of situations and the right character to gain the utmost trust from the soldiers under your command. As a Royal Signals officer you will need to have excellent leadership abilities and strong intellect; you must be able to lead and command highly skilled soldiers within a technical environment, both in peacetime and war.
