Canoeing

The Corps Colours

The Corps and the Army have a strong tradition of success within the Canoe sport environment. Over the past few years the Corps can boast World Championship medals in addition to a number of soldiers being selected to represent their national teams. The Corps Canoe club assists unit canoeists through the provision of financial assistance, loan of equipment and general advice on canoeing matters. Currently the Corps leads the way in all 3 major canoeing disciplines of Slalom, Wild Water Racing and Sprint and Marathon Racing.

Canoeing is also encouraged as one of the recognised Adventurous Training pursuits. During basic training soldiers get their first taste of canoeing as part of either a 2 week Leadership and Initiative training module or as part of a 5 day Adventurous Training exercise. In addition, the Corps supports canoe expeditions to all sorts of exciting destinations such as Costa Rica, Finland and the USA to name just a few.
