HISTORY OF 232 SIGNAL SQUADRON.

232 Signal Squadron was formed in 1959 from 13 Signal Park , Singapore as 232 Signal Squadron (Park).

13 Signal Park was attached to 30 Base Ordnance Depot (30 BOD) which was located near the Park in Singapore. The main military facilities and accommodation were located in the 30 BOD camp, meaning that the 13 Signal Park lads required transporting to and from the Park each day. The Park itself was about half an acre in size with a marshy area at the centre where hundreds of croaking frogs used to keep the guys awake whilst on guard duty at night.

The Equipment stored at the Park consisted mainly of drums of large underground cables, towers of surplus barbed wire, wireless and signalling equipment, plus a few military vehicles. Most of this was redundant paraphernalia left over from the occupation. Some of it was still operational and sent on demand either locally, or up country to Malaya.

The 13 Signal Park HQ was a small detachment of around 30 and also included several Gurkhas, plus some civilians working for them. We have also found traces of a smaller detachment located in Hong Kong attached to 6 Company R.A.O.C.

The Signal Park was closed down on 1 April 1965 and the Signal Squadron dispanded.

On 5 January 1993, 5 Squadron, 7th Signal Regiment became 232 Signal Squadron. As an access Squadron it composed of Delta, Radio and TAC Troops.

232 Signal Squadron has the Merlion as the Squadron Emblem.
