How to Join the TA

32 (Scottish) Signal Regiment is the only Royal Signals regiment in Scotland. It plays an important role in operations in the United Kingdom, providing the vital link between the emergency services and the Armed Forces.

The TA Royal Signals offers the best of both worlds to people who find the idea of the Army life appealing, but who are unable to make a full-time commitment.

How to Join the TA Royal Signals in Scotland
If you would like to join us then you must do the following:
- REQUEST MORE INFORMATION ON JOINING THE TA - Click here to request a free, no obligation information pack about the TA Royal Signals in Scotland. At this stage you may like to check the eligibility requirements for joining the TA.
- VISIT US - You'll get to chat to the recruiting team, watch a DVD on the TA and then start the recruiting procedure. This consists of the following:
- INITIAL INTERVIEW - This interview will help us to assess your suitability for the TA and give you the chance to ask any questions you may have.
- TA SELECTION - This includes:
- Medical - This will be arranged with an Army doctor and will ensure that you are fit to train and carry out the next part of the recruiting procedure.
- Fitness Test - You must be able to run 1 ½ miles in 14 minutes or less.
- FINAL INTERVIEW - This interview will focus on your chosen trade and role in the TA.
- ATTESTATION -You will swear an oath of allegiance to the Queen, this is the final stage of the recruiting procedure - you are now a member of the TA.
- START TRAINING - The next time you come to the TA Centre you could actually start training with us! The first step in becoming a TA Royal Signals soldier is to complete a Workplace Induction Programme and two basic military skills weekends.
After this there are 4 weekends to attend (covering subjects like weapon handling, map reading and drill), before completing your two week Basic Military Training course.
- SPECIALIST TRADE TRAINING - Once you have finished your Basic Military Training you are now a Class 3 Soldier and must start you specialist Royal Signals Trade training to become an Operator, Technician, Electrician or Driver. More information about the trades available.
- CAREER PROGRESSION Your career in the TA can progress similar to that of a regular soldier. You start off class 3 in your trade and can progress to class 1 following the relevant training and courses. Opportunities also exist to become an officer within the TA if you think your leadership and management skills are up to it!
