The coming year will see the Squadron exercise regularly to maintain and improve communications and soldiering skills. New equipment and methods of operating will challenge all ranks, and will make for a robust, agile and highly deployable headquarters.
Exercises last year have allowed the Squadron to become proficient in its core mission: the provision of a Headquarters and communications capability to the Brigade Commander.
The maintenance of communications skills is also of critical importance. Troops have been deployed across the UK to establish and maintain communications in mountainous and difficult environments.
The images are from an exercise last November, which involved a week of troop and squadron level maneuvers on Catterick Training Area. It was an opportunity to validate Squadron SOPs, with input expected and received from all members of the Squadron as to which procedures worked, and which required revision. Typically bracing Catterick weather, including high winds, only added to the fun. The exercise left the Squadron far better prepared for the challenges of this year, especially since it was the first time many of the less experienced soldiers and new arrivals had worked in an armoured brigade headquarters.
This will continue throughout the year. Support to Battle groups, joint exercises with RAF assets and 3 Commando Brigade will form the backbone of an exciting and busy year. Throughout this, all ranks within the Squadron will be encouraged to attend courses and gain qualifications to improve their military skills and knowledge.
