There are a number of emails claiming to be from individuals from the Royal Irish Regiment. Although the content differs between the emails, the theme is the same. A summary would be :
The individual claims to be a serving member of 1 R IRISH
Either the Commanding Officer or another senior officer
A mention of insurgent attacks
A very large sum of money involved
A request to transfer the sum to the recipient of the email via a courier service
These emails are part of a large internet scam, and we are unlucky enough to be named in the email. The email is a scam for the following reasons.
The CO is incorrectly named
We have yet to be attacked at Clive Barracks!
We sum is in US dollars
We are aware of the scam and can do nothing to prevent it. Eventually these emails will run their course and disappear. Things you can do to help are:
Please do not forward on the email to anyone - including us. It will kill the email if no one forwards it.
Do NOT reply to the email as it will cause your email address to be registered as a working email account. If your email address does not respond, then the scammers will assume it does not work and may not send you further junk emails.
Refer anyone you overhear talking about the email to this page on our website. Once everyone knows it is a scam they will just delete the email on receipt.
But most of all a big "Thank You" for trying to inform us of it!
