39 ENGINEER REGIMENT

ORGANISATION

In order to meet the requirements of our role the Regiment is organised as shown in the tree diagram below. As with the rest of the Corps of Royal Engineers each soldier is trained firstly as a combat infantryman and secondly as a combat engineer. Further to this, specialist trade training is conducted in a variety of disciplines ranging from bricklayers to plant operators and design draughtsmen. Full details of trades and different career paths can be found at the Royal Engineers Careers Website a link for which is listed under the Related Websites heading.

RECENT DEPLOYMENTS

The Regiment always has personnel deployed overseas in support of RAF main operating bases and other operational and exercise commitments. Due to the frequency of deployments the tour length tends to be around three or four months instead of the standard six month tour experienced elsewhere in the army.

Operation WARDEN - Incirlik, Turkey.
Operation BOLTON - Ali Al Salem, Kuwait.

ADVENTUROUS TRAINING EXPEDITIONS

As can be seen by the long list of operational deployments the Regiment is very busy. In addition to training for operations Squadrons are encouraged to organise and participate in adventurous training and sporting activities. These activities provide serving soldiers with challenging opportunities to practise planning, command and leadership training. It's also a time for expansion of individual horizons and character development. Recent activities include:

Exercise SNOWY EAGLE - Ski training in the South of France.
Exercise HIGHLAND BEAVER - Adventurous training in Scotland.
Exercise PARADISO TIGER - Rock climbing in Italy.
Exercise BISCAY BEAVER - Sailing in Bay of Biscay.
