69 Gurkha Field Squadron QGE

General
69 Gurkha Field Squadron, is based in Invicta Park Maidstone Kent and comes under 36 Engineer Regiment There are three field troops, a support troop and SHQ as it's sub-units.
Role and Organisation
SHQ and Clerks department

SHQ and the Clerks Department continue to be at the core of Sqn activities and have seen themselves deploy on all major Sqn exercises and Operations.  The highlight of this last year was undoubtedly Op TELIC 4, the Squadron’s last minute deployment to support 22 Engineer Regiment Group in Iraq.  The lack of preparation time made as much impact on the administrative preparation of the Squadron as anywhere else however, the Clerks under the of expert care of Sgt Mohan Thapa, once again rose admirably to the challenge and the entire Squadron deployed in the highest order.  SHQ has subsequently supported all of the Squadron’s exercises since the return from Op TELIC.  Most notably was Ex LOG VIPER where the comforts of an office were exchanged for a windy and snowy airfield near Oxford but once again the power of G1 prevailed and all elements of SHQ continued to give the highest level of support to the Troops. shq

Sadly we have had to say farewell to Capt (QGO) Dhan Chand, who was promoted to Gurkha Major, Capt Ian Moore and Cpl Dugendra Tamang.  Their time with the Squadron was highly successful and we wish them all the best for the future.  However, their replacements have been quick to make their mark and Cpl Sushil and LCpl Surendra have made an impressive start to their tours with QGE.  It can be guaranteed however, that the department will continue to give the Squadron its maximum support where ever and whatever it may find itself involved with in the future.

Jai QGE!

Exercise Snow Warrior (11 – 24 March 2005, Germany)

Life is either an adventure or nothing. Skiing in Germany was something I was so eagerly looking forward to. We assembled at the Chelsea Barracks in London for a 14 hour ride to Germany. It is a beautiful country. However, language might be a problem for visitors. The two weeks just flew by in a sense. From early mornings till late evenings we were up in the hills. sworriorThe first three days were exhausting. It was more of a pain than fun. There are two types of skiing – alpine skiing and ski tour. The first one is where we go up the hill on T-lift bars or chair-lifts and come downhill on skies. The latter is sort of cross-country skiing where we go both up and down the hills. It's like going on a hike but on skies. The snow wasn't good enough for ski tour so we were stuck on alpine skiing. My ski tour was so much fun. This can be an ideal way to escape the monotonous life sometimes we think we are living. I would strongly recommend everybody to go for it if opportunities arise.
