Welcome back to the 61 Fd Sp Sqn web page, I’m sorry that we haven’t been exactly up to date but unfortunately we’ve been a little busy. If you haven’t guessed already we’ve not long got back from Iraq. | |
| There have been a lot of changes in 61Fd Sp Sqn (Air Assault). The least of which is that the title. The role of the Sqn has changed completely. The Sqn is now part of 23 Engr Regt. |
| What this means is that we are now a quick deployment Sqn and therefore we have a certain percentage of the Sqn that, (after training) may wear the Airborne badge and be deployed to the battlefield by parachute. |

| After a successful tour of duty in Kosovo and a recovery to Maidstone we went on Christmas leave. As you are probably aware the War on terrorism began and the Fighting 61st was called in from leave to prepare for deployment training. We immediately commenced acclimatisation training on the Range complex at Hythe in the snow. The stores required for Desert war were in-loaded and needless to say sun block was made available in the bucket load. |
