73 Armoured Engineer Squadron was reformed in November 2000. In its first year (2001) it went through the full training cycle (Germany, Poland and Canada) as well as the Sultanate of Oman. The following year the squadron deployed to Cyprus on Exercise LION SUN. At the end of 2003 the squadron deployed to the North West of England as part of Op FRESCO, recovering and subsequentally deploying on Op DESCANT in Northern Ireland between May and November 2004.
The squadron is currently deployed on Op TELIC V in Iraq. (Click here to visit our squadrons Op TELIC page) It's Orbat includes a Search, Boat and Field Troop. We return to Osnabruck in May 2005 whereupon the single soldiers move into brand new accomodation supplied under Op PUMA and we look forward to occupying the brand new Squadron bar.
The squadron has clearly been, and remains, extremely busy. It has a first class reputation within 4 Armoured Brigade and this will continue. It is hoped that 2005 will provide a respite from operations and the opportunity to engage in some well-earned adventure training and Troop level tasks around Germany; as well as maintenance of our Close Support skills.
'The Squadron's Mission is to shape the battlefield and provide freedom of manoeuvre for the 1st Battalion Scots Guards Battlegroup in order that they can operate effectively in any theatre and across the spectrum of conflict, maximising their combat power at a time and place of their choosing to fulfil the higher commander's intent.' |
