The Royal Engineers Museum of
Military Engineering

The Royal Engineers Museum of Military Engineering is one of the foremost Military Museums in the country.

A splendid venue
available for
conferences, receptions, corporate hospitality
and events.

Its exhibits demonstrate the Corps' diversity and pioneering spirit throughout history. The Museum is housed in the Ravelin Building which was designed by Major E C Moore RE and completed in 1904.  The building's central courtyard has now been covered to enable many fine exhibits to be displayed all year round.

A fully - equipped briefing room with 30 seats is available for use by groups.  A separate schools room with 30 seats and a handling collection is also available.  These facilities must be booked.

THE DISPLAYS
The displays illustrate the history of the Corps of Royal Engineers and its work around the world in peace and war.  Notable items include a scale model of the Rock of Gibraltar made just after the Great Siege of 1779 - 1782, the Duke of Wellington's battle map of Waterloo, the silk court dress presented to General Gordon by the Chinese Emperor, the sole surviving Brennan Torpedo, a dug out on the Western Front from the First World War and a Medway family home in the blitz of the Second World War.

The development of military aviation, diving, survey, photography and bridging is covered.  There are realistic sound effects, working models, interactive displays and full - sized equipment.

The medal collection is of national, if not international, importance with 25 Victoria Crosses, 3 George Crosses, the regalia of Field Marshal Lord Kitchener and unique gallantry awards from the Falklands War.

A quick tour of the galleries requires 11/2 hours, a detailed tour up to 4 hours.  For most people there is too much to take in on a single visit.
