Joining the Corps of Royal Engineers as an officer is straightforward, just follow the steps below:
1. Consider The Options
Talk to your Army Careers Advisor (ACA). They will determine your basic suitability as an Army officer, and advise you on the next stage of the process.
Insight Courses and Familiarisation Visits are also available to give you a taste of Army life.
2. Basic Tests
Your ACA will explain your commissioning route, before you attend the Army officer Selection Board (AOSB) Briefing. Here you will be briefed on the selection process, and take some tests to deide whether you are ready to proceed.
3. Final Tests
If you are successful at the AOSB Briefing you will be put forward to attend the AOSB Main Board. Here you will sit a series of physical and mental tests over three and a half days to see if you are Army oOfficer material.
4. Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS)
If yo are successful at the AOSB Main Board you will start officer training at RMAS, and enlist in the British Army. After commissioning, officers attend the Royal Engineers Troop Commander's Course, where they learn their trade as a Sapper officer.
