“What is it and what is in it for me?”

The British Army is justifiably proud of its regimental system that is the envy of other Armies for the way the esprit de corps is developed and maintained.  The purpose of The RLC Association is to promote and develop the Corps’ identity through concern for Corps members, Regular and Territorial Army, serving and retired and their dependants.  This includes fostering welfare, pride of heritage, sport and other activities.  It also facilitates reunions and provides relief to those who fall on hard times, or are otherwise in need.  The work of the Association is funded through serving RLC officers’ and soldiers’ contributions to the  The Days Pay Scheme, retired members’ subscriptions to the Association and donations.

We are very conscious of the continuing role of the Forming Corps in the regimental family and the varying and increasing needs of our predecessors.  The RHQ is charged with keeping in touch with individuals, ex-servicemen’s organisations and the Army Benevolent Fund in order to give assistance where needed.  This contact is also maintained in order to assist those seeking suitable employment after leaving the Corps through the Logistic Employment Network (LEN).

So what?  The Corps family is developing gradually as The RLC matures and is hoping to embrace all who have served with The Royal Logistic Corps and its predecessors.  The connection remains for life and can be as strong or as weak as you want it to be.  It is your family, but will only grow with the support of the members.  The Association is for all members and retired members of The RLC, not just the officers and senior ranks and we are actively encouraging younger serving personnel and those who have recently left

What are the benefits?  The Association is there to provide a focus for all members of The RLC to keep in touch, to provide assistance to those of us in real need and to provide a close knit network of like-minded people for those who have left.  All serving officers and soldiers are members of the Association.  Membership is also open to all serving members of The RLC Territorial Army and all who have served in the Regular or Territorial Army with The RLC or with the RASC/RCT, RAOC, RPC, ACC or the RE (P&CS) for an annual payment of £15.  For this sum you will:

a.       Receive the Sustainer, The RLC journal six times a year and the RLC Review once a year.

b.      Receive annually the retired members List (The RLC List) giving details of all members (who wish to have their names included) and the annual Corps diary.

c.       Receive the annual newsletter in January listing details of all key Corps events that you will be entitled to attend.  These are also advertised in The Sustainer

d.      Be entitled to wear The RLC Association badge (which will be given to you on joining) and tie that may be purchased from the Corps Shop at The RLC Museum Deepcut (01252 833484).  There are additional ties for the Officers Club and The RLC Headquarters Sergeants Mess.

e.       Receive a copy of the Members Handbook and Constitution and Rules.

If you would like to join the Association and subscribe to The Sustainer complete the attached Direct Debit mandate, Gift Aid Form and membership details and return them to the RHQ with a cheque for £15, to cover the first year’s subscription, made payable to The RLC Association Trust Fund as soon as possible.
