The Memorial Arch

There had been a collection of sorts in Woking and in the early days in Chichester, but the museum was not formally established by deed until 1979. The first Trustees were Patrick Moore (OBE) and Brigadier Dennis Rendell. The latter who remains as the senior elected Trustee and also heads the 'Friends of the Museum' list.

The Museum in its present form was opened by General James Glover in 1985. It was built by S&S Designs Limited to a design by Richard Daynes, probably one of the leading museum designers of the day. The Museum achieved Phase 1 registration with the Museums and Galleries Commission in 1993 and has been invited to apply for Phase 2 later this year. Registration is a prerequisite for continued public funding and for entering into a service level agreement with the MoD.

Though the Museum charts the history of the Military Police from the Provost Marshals of Queen Elizabeth 1st , In reality artefacts from the 1800's to the Gulf and latterly the Balkans are displayed.
