THE CULDROSE TROPHY
and
INTER-REGIMENTAL CUP

REME Yacht Club crewed 'Endeavour', a JSASTC Challenge 67 entry in the Fastnet Race this year. Skippered by Becky Walford of JSASTC, she was one of 51 finishers from 276 boats starting on Monday 13 August 07 (A weather induced delay of 25 hours).

Endeavour completed the course in little over 3 days, crossing the line in 29th place. On corrected time she was placed 20th and 9th in Class Zero. She was the first Service yacht around the Rock and to finish on corrected time winning the Culdrose Trophy and Inter-Regimental Cup respectively.

This is the first time REME have won the Inter-Regimental Cup whose history goes back to 1937.

During the race, Endeavour sailed 674 miles to complete the 607 mile course and experienced 3 gales over 3 nights.

The gilt framed oil painting depicts Corporal Fred Comber dismounting from a Challenger Armoured Repair and Recovery Vehicle (CRARRV) with three other military vehicles in the distance and a background of black smoke. The painting was donated to the REME Museum of Technology by the Trustees of the REME Central Charitable Trust. The REME Central Charitable Trust commissioned the artist David Rowlands to illustrate one of the actions mentioned in the Citation for the Military Cross (MC) awarded to Corporal CJG (Fred) Comber MC, REME.
Corporal Comber has subsequently been promoted to Sergeant.

REME FOOTBALL

REME Football is the by far the Corps sport with the most participation at soldier level.
Football is definitely the soldiers’ sport!
The Corps 6 a-side tournament held annually in September, nonnally attracts in excess of 60 teams, and leads into the Craftsman Cup competitions, Junior and Senior for the rest of the season. The Corps side itself is in the top flight of Army football and is a force to be reckon with.
At unit level, 6 Bn REME has taken over the mantle from 3 Bn REME as the Corps’ team for footballers. SEME and SEAE provide the foundation with many young and enthusiastic players taking to the pitch — the future looks promising.
