RAATC Mission and Aim
RAATC Mission. To train and qualify Royal Artillery Soldiers in Adventure Training Proficiency and Foundation Courses in order to provide a basis for selection of potential future adventure training instructors throughout the Royal Artillery.
RAATC Aim. To encourage and develop adventure training (AT) throughout the Royal Regiment through the following objectives:
a. To qualify RA Soldiers in Level 2 AT qualifications in 4 core activities:
(1) Summer/Winter Mountaineering.
(2) Rock Climbing.
(3) Canoeing.
(4) Kayaking.
b. To provide the opportunity for those already qualified to gain quality mountain days (QMDs), coaching log book experience/hours and to lead groups in order that they can progress up the AT ladder.
c. To facilitate the running of unit sponsored level 2 AT courses.
d. To organise and lead RA AT expeditions on behalf of the Gunners enabling suitably experienced and qualified officers and soldiers to participate.
e. Provide AT facilities for small groups (up to 30).
f. To provide advice on all AT matters including distributed training, qualifications and world wide expedition planning.
g. To run and host the annual RA Adventure Race.
In order to create a solid adventure training foundation throughout the Royal Artillery.
