The Collection

The extensive displays, archive and military history library illustrate the fascinating story of the Regiment from its foundation in 1689 to the achievements of the 'Lancashire Lads' of today. Their scope is the history, achievements and people of three of Lancashire's historic County Regiments, their predecessors and successors:

  • The South Lancashire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Volunteers)  - 40th and 82nd Foot
  • The Loyal Regiment (North Lancashire) - 47th and 81st Foot
  • The Lancashire Regiment (Prince of Wales'sVolunteers)
  • The Queen's Lancashire Regiment

as well as associated Militia, Rifle Volunteers, Territorials, Home Guard and Cadets. In all no less than 120 separate units are recorded, including the 59 battalions formed by the predecessor regiments during the First World War
