QACOLOURS

QARANC Association

QACOLOURS

A registered Charity - 270278

Under the patronage of Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex, Colonel-in-Chief of the Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps

QARANC COLONEL IN CHIEF

Introduction

All Regiments and Corps of the British Army have their own Regimental Headquarters and these Headquarters administer their own Association. The idea on which each is based is to have an organisation whose activities will bind together in practical friendship all who are serving or have served in the Regiment or Corps, irrespective of rank, sharing in its record, its achievements, tradition and history. The Nursing Services of the Army have their own record of achievement, and they have always given practical friendship towards their members, past and present. The QARANC Association was founded in 1947 by Dame Louisa Wilkinson DBE RRC.

Membership

Our members, and those eligible to become members, are scattered all over the world. They range from veterans of the Indian Army Nursing Service to present day QARANC personnel of all ranks.

Everyone who has served in the Corps will agree that the shared experience of serving in the Army is special and membership of the Association enables past and present members to keep in touch.  We encourage all members to join when they leave the Corps.  Our Motto is FRIENDSHIP and we try and maintain that through our branches which organise functions and events where members can meet up.  Members who wish to keep in touch on a less formal basis can become members of Headquarters Roll.  All members receive a copy of the Gazette,  the Association magazine which is published twice a year.

The objectives of the Association are to be carried out by:

  • Recruitment of those who are eligible for membership and by the formation of local branches, as and when numbers of members in any one area make this feasible.

  • Organising social gatherings and representation of Serving and ex-Service members in all branch areas. A Reunion is held in London each year following the Annual General Meeting.

  • Publication of an Association Gazette to which members and branches contribute news and articles of interest. The Gazette can be the means of bringing old friends together again, and provides a medium for branch or personal notifications and advertisements. Two editions are printed each year.

  • Maintenance of Association Funds to which branches and members can and do, contribute.

  • Encouraging members to undertake, within their own area, benevolent activities on behalf of the Association.

  • Assisting members in any way, according to their need, as far as it lies within the power of the Association.

Management

The Director of Army Nursing Services shall be ex-officio President of the Association for the period of her appointment and the Association is managed by the Central Committee which is the board of trustees consisting of a Vice President, Chairman, Vice Chairman, a TA representative, two serving officers and four elected members.  In addition there are three other ex-officio members, the Colonel Commandant QARANC, the Corps Senior Warrant Officer and the General Secretary.

Branches are located in Aldershot, Bournemouth, Catterick, Chester, Colchester, Cyprus, Germany, London, Midlands, Newcastle, Portsmouth, Scotland, Wales and West Country.

Members who are unable to join a specific branch may belong to the Headquarter Roll.
