Over Dec and Jan the 1st Battalion will be moving back to Catterick, to take up it's Mechanized role, and beginning the second phase of it's pre-deployment training for Bosnia.
These changes necessitate re-configuring our structure, and Bosnia, whilst utilising a number of the skills we have perfected over the last 2 years in N Ireland, also has it's own specialist skill and knowledge requirements.
The Battalion has trained up an increased number of SAXON drivers, from Manoeuvre Support Company (Sp Coy) the Mortars and Milan teams have been training on the mainland, refreshing skills that haven't been used in NI.

Mine awareness training has been going on- everybody pricks up their ears for this one! Whilst the Ottowa Treaty means that we don't use mines Bosnia is littered with minefields and unexploded ordnance (UXO)- bomblets and munitions that haven't exploded and continue to pose a threat to civilian and military alike.
