Soldiers set for new leadership skills qualifications

Under a new partnership with the Chartered Institute of Management, 7,500 soldiers every year will be able to achieve a series of qualifications designed to enhance the management career structure provided by the Army. Soldiers participating in the courses will be able to gain qualifications at a variety of levels.

Courses range from introductory awards to degree-level diplomas and will be verified externally to ensure they provide civilian recognition. Each qualification will also require the completion of an assignment focusing on management issues that can be applied to civilian or Army scenarios, including improving team effectiveness, developing people and managing information.

Major Jacqui Davidson of the Directorate of Educational and Training Services (Army), said, “If we want our soldiers to ‘Be the Best’ they should have access to courses that allow them to enhance their professional and personal development. By partnering with the Chartered Management Institute we are offering soldiers a structured lifelong learning programme which will help them maximise these opportunities throughout their Army career .”

The partnership with the Chartered Management Institute is a central part of the Army’s programme to develop wider partnerships with professional institutions, awarding bodies and universities to maximise development opportunities for soldiers and officers. The Institute courses will be open to both junior and senior NCOs and Warrant Officers.
