ROLLING OUT THE RESERVES

Rovers' defender Simon Francis with Staff Sergeant Andy McCready prior to the match

TRANMERE ROVERS were joined by a squad of a different kind for last weekend's match against Southend -  the Territorial Army were out in full force at Prenton Park on Saturday 21 January in a bid to recruit new members.

Representatives from the Birkenhead-based 156 ( North West) transport regiment were on hand before, during and after the match to offer information and advice about the benefits of joining the TA, as well as demonstrating one of their DROPS vehicles (Dismountable Rack Off-load Pick-up System), which is used on operations to support troops in wartime situations and in training. The North West Infantry TA band was also at the ground to provide a rendition of the Super Whites' 'Rockford Files' theme tune.

Major Jeremy Scott, Operations and Training Officer at the Wexford Road regiment said; 'This was a fantastic opportunity for us to meet local people in a fun and competitive environment, which is exactly what the TA represents. As a transport regiment, we can offer new recruits the opportunity to learn to drive off and on road, up to and including LGV standard and get paid for the privilege!'
