Army launches new fitness podcasts

Athletics legend and Olympic medallist Kriss Akabusi with instructors from the Army Physical Training Corps

A recent survey revealed that cost, time and lack of motivation are the biggest barriers to exercise for most Brits. Around half the people surveyed said they do minimal exercise - as there's no one to motivate them - or they find exercising on their own boring. The research also shows that good intentions formed around New Year often fizzle out as early as Valentine's Day.

Getting fit might mean joining a gym or paying for expensive fitness classes - but it needn't cost anything. The Army has a dedicated fitness site - armyfit.mod.uk - which is packed with advice and tips on how to eat healthily, work out properly and sustain the momentum needed to get results. The site caters for everyone - whether you're just starting off or are in reasonable shape already. And of course, fitness benefits are universal - you don't have to be in or joining the Army to get something out of it.

As an extra incentive, the site now includes audio podcasts, which can be downloaded and listened to during training. If you're suffering from a lack of motivation these could be just the job to get you started. There are three levels - beginner, intermediate and advanced - each running to music. All feature encouragement from Army Physical Training Instructors as well as athletics legend and Olympic medallist Kriss Akabusi, with his trademark motivational talent.

Sergeant Paul Tucker comments: "This year will mark the 150th anniversary of the Army Physicial Training Corps and we're delighted to kick if off with this new initiative. For years the public have been telling us how much they respect our fitness expertise - but it's the benefit of our motivational ability they really crave."

The free podcasts, which last for 40 minutes, are downloadable at armyfit.mod.uk.
