About the Band

British Army Brass Band British Army Brass Band in concert set up inside the Chapel at the Army Training Regiment Winchester.

Many of the players in the Corps come from brass band backgrounds including bands like Black Dyke, Fairey's, Grimethorpe and YBS. With high pedigrees and performance ability it seemed only natural to form a Corps central based brass band.

With a blank canvas and no idea of how popular the idea would be, a plan of action was drawn up. It was decided to make the concept attractive to Army musicians, a series of high profile events should be planned.

Subsequently, the organisers of the Pontins Brass Band Championships invited the Band to perform at the 2007 Championships.  It was a huge risk as the band only existed as concept and the reputation of Army music was at stake.  Nonetheless the engagement was accepted and an official launch concert was planned.

An initial trawl across the Army resulted in over one hundred musicians declaring an interest in the brass band.  A standard size brass band was selected and after just one day's rehearsal, the British Army Brass Band made its debut at Pontins in Prestatyn on 3 November 2007. The band received rave reviews.  The launch public concert in Aldershot on 17 November was equally as successful.

The band has continued to go from strength to strength, with a key aim of recruiting for the Corps of Army Music and the wider Army.  It is also a vehicle to showcase the exceptional talent within Army music and provides another outlet to challenge and motivate the musicians.

As the players come from bands all over the country; the band normally has about one or two rehearsals before an engagement which only further highlights the quality of the musicians themselves.
