History
The Adjutant General's Corps is an amalgamation of the Royal Military Police, the Royal Army Pays Corps, the Royal Army Educational Corps and the Army Legal Corps, the Women's Royal Army Corps together with elements of the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, and other Arms and Services of the Army. With over 1000 officers and 6000 soldiers the Adjutant General's Corps is approximately 7% of the British Army. Currently, 14% of the Corps is serving on operations with almost every unit of the Army throughout the world.
The Band of the Adjutant General's Corps was formed in Buller Barracks, Aldershot on the 6th of April 1992. The majority of its founding members were musicians from the Women's Royal Army Corps. In August 1995, the Band moved to its permanent station in Worthy Down, Hampshire, also the home of the Adjutant General's Corps, whereupon, in August 1999, the band deployed in its operational role to Kosovo for six months in support of 24 Armoured Field Ambulance.
During its history, the Band has undertaken numerous tours travelling throughout mainland Europe, Northern Ireland, Cyprus and the UK. In more recent times the band has toured the USA, Spain, Italy, Denmark and Finland.
Recent high profile engagements have included Buckingham Palace Garden Parties, The Rededication of The Basra War Memorial in the National Arboretum, The International Military Pilgrimage to Lourdes, the Wimbledon Tennis Finals and public concerts in wonderful settings such as Winchester and Salisbury Cathedrals. The band has also performed alongside other talented musicians, including Hayley Westenra and The Treorchy Male Voice Choir.
The majority of the engagements carried out by the AGC Band are in support of the Army and Service Charities where their performances have raised tens of thousands of pounds.
In addition to performing as a marching and concert band, the AGC Band also provides smaller ensembles including a Fanfare Team, Brass Quintet, Woodwind Quintet, Jazz Ensemble, Pop Group and Big Band. The spectrum of music covered is very wide ranging from classical to jazz, film and popular music.
