About the Band

Members of the band

The Band is always keen to support public events and keep the Army in the public eye.

As well as a very good marching band and symphonic concert band capability the Band has a number of smaller ensembles available to suit any event large or small.  These ensembles include:

Normandy brass

An experienced, talented and flexible quintet. Capable of a varied and entertaining program of music, the quintet is able to diversify between many genres throughout the history of music, from J. S. Bach to the music of The Beatles. This ensemble is sure to give your function a real sparkle, by providing suitable background music for weddings, cocktail parties, or any type of formal or informal dinner-function. This multitalented ensemble could be the ideal solution for that occasion where space is at a premium.

Woodwind quintet

The subtle tone-colours of the woodwind ensemble provide a distinctive finishing touch for any event. The blend of flute, oboe clarinet and French Horn are an ideal balance and are adaptable in any combination, making it possible to have the perfect tailor-made ensemble for any formal or informal function.

Simply sax

This could be just what's required to add the correct mood, atmosphere, style and sophistication to any kind of function. The mood varies from classical to jazz and pop to slow mellow numbers.  Featuring the entire family or soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones, Simply Sax adds a balance of flair and class without being pretentious. Relaxing dinner-parties, formal occasions, wedding receptions and cocktail parties become something special when enhanced by Simply Sax.

Big band

Our Big Band has had a short period away from performing as a number of new performers and a new vocalist have come into the ensemble.  However, they are now back in full swing, and have performed at a series of recent concerts. They have added colour and variety to the event and have proven to bring the house down!

This large ensemble comprises 19 musicians from the band and provides a fantastic variety of swing, jazz and big band music to suit the occasion. These performers love what they do and really enjoy their music. Contact the band if you would like more information about what we can offer.

The Sonics

Formed in January 2009 they are now an integral complement of the Band of The Kings Division. Led by Corporal Dee Pearson on vocals, they perform at many military and civilian events throughout the year. They are a key aspect to bringing Army Music to a wider field, showing incredible versatility.

The Sonics recently performed at a series of events throughout the North West including Preston Caribbean Carnival, where they provided a fantastic opportunity to take the Army to the wider community.

Members of the band include Lance Corporal Ian Charlton, lead/rhythm guitar, Musician Leah Pettinger, Bass, Lance Corporal  Eddie Kervin, keyboards and Corporal Lynden Walker on Drums. The band love to perform a variety of numbers including covers from Whitesnake, The Killers and Biffy Clyro.
