The Band of the Royal Corps of Signals is a highly professional organisation which consists of many talented and versatile musicians. In addition to fulfilling the normal service requirement in providing musical support in marching and concert band formats, the Band is able to provide various musical ensembles to satisfy the needs of a wide range of functions.
Brass quintets
The Band currently has two brass quintets that alternate for engagements, which range from church services, small to medium scale Mess functions to high profile ceremonial duties. The quintets' versatile repertoire ranges from baroque to modern popular numbers, ideal for background entertainment but also can provide a stand alone concert when required.
Woodwind quintet
The woodwind quintet, consisting flute, oboe, horn, clarinet and bassoon, is an ideal ensemble for smaller scale formal Mess functions, cocktail or dinner parties where a more delicate and subtle background musical setting is called for. Their repertoire also ranges from baroque to modern popular numbers.
Saxophone quartet
As an alternative choice to the brass and woodwind quintets, the saxophone quartet is a versatile ensemble which performs a wide range of repertoire from classical transcriptions, light ragtime and jazz arrangements, to modern original compositions.
Fromage á Trois
Fromage á Trois is a trombone/vocalist, keyboard and drums cabaret trio which perform music from the 1920s to the modern day, but with a unique twist. The nature and style of their ensemble, which has been together for 3 years, sees them being requested popularly for informal Mess functions as well as private engagements.
Dixie band
The 7 piece dixie band, which consists of trumpet, trombone, clarinet, saxophone, tuba, keyboard and drums, performs well known standard trad jazz numbers in sets on both formal and informal occasions such as open days, weddings and Mess functions.
Light Jazz Trio
The light jazz trio is the Band's newest ensemble having only been together since May 2009. The saxophone, keyboard and drum kit group performs contemporary classical-jazz fusion numbers at small to medium size informal functions which require lighter and easy-listening background music.
Soul Band "Soul'jers"
Soul'jers is our 12 piece Soul band, featuring a full rhythm section (keyboard, guitars, bass guitar and drum kit), 5 piece brass section (alto, tenor and baritone saxophones, trumpet and trombone), and a female and a male vocalists. Their repertoire contains standard and non standard soul band numbers which they would normally perform in sets. They are required to perform on average 12 times a year at a variety of engagements ranging from formal Mess functions, informal family days to private hire functions such as parties and weddings.
