About the Band

Band formed up on paradeThe Band is based at Stanley Barracks Bovington in Dorset.  Although the Band's primary role is to fulfil the needs of the affiliated regiments and the British Army on a whole, they are available for bookings to the public depending on their schedule.

As well as a very good marching band and concert band capability it has a number of smaller ensembles available to suit any situation or event.

The ensembles available include:

  • Concert band - A full symphonic wind band performing traditional military band music, music from the shows Film and TV, popular music, songs, solo items and much more.  Concerts by the Light Cavalry Band are thoroughly enjoyable for all ages.
  • Marching band - How every military band is remembered.  Fantastic uniforms, great military marches, precision movements and drill.
  • Brass quintet - An ensemble for any event requiring a touch of class, regal effect but taking up less space or just as background music.
  • Woodwind quintet - A more subtle ensemble offering class to any event, generally quieter than the brass and ideal as background music.
  • Fanfares - Truly remarkable, uniforms, fantastic visual effect and a sound that can not be obtained by any other method.
  • Rock band - 'Blackout', the Band's modern 5-piece rock band, performing numbers from the late '90s up to present day from some of the world's most popular bands.
  • Dixie band - The band is pleased to offer a 7-piece traditional jazz band, ideally suited to cocktail parites and social events.
  • Big band - A traditional dance band, playing a wide variety of music from old swing favourites such Glen Miller, through hot Latin numbers, to modern day Jazz legends such as Gordon Goodwin and Maynard Fergusson.
