Director of Music - Captain S P Riley BMus (Hons) FLCM LRSM GCGI CAMUS
Captain Sean Riley began his Army career in 1987 as a French Horn player at the Army Junior School of Music, Dorset. In 1989, on completion of two years training, he joined the Regimental Band of the Royal Regiment of Wales, based in Warminster and in 1990 moved with the Battalion to embark on a three year posting of Hong Kong, during which time the Band toured extensively throughout Asia.
In 1993, the Band was posted to Ternhill, Shropshire and in 1994, following 'Options for Change' Captain Riley became one of the founder members of the newly formed Band of The Prince of Wales's Division (Clive). He remained in Ternhill until 1998 when he was selected to attend the Student Bandmasters course at the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall.
Captain Riley qualified as a Bandmaster in 2002, where he received awards for both musical and sporting activities, including the Commandant's Prize for the Best Quick March. In August 2002, he was appointed Bandmaster of the Normandy Band of The Queen's Division and posted to Catterick, North Yorkshire. Shortly after appointment, the Normandy Band was deployed to Iraq on Operation Telic, where he was employed as a watch-keeper, as well as other general duties in support of 34 Field Hospital.
In 2005, further reformations saw the disbandment of the Normandy Band at which time Captain Riley was posted to Kneller Hall on a staff appointment as the Courses Warrant Officer. Captain Riley was selected for commission in November 2008 and in April 2009 appointed Director of Music of the Band of the Prince of Wales's Division. In August 2010 Captain Riley was appointed Director of Music of The Heavy Cavalry and Cambrai Band in Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire.
