The Regiment Today

The Light Infantry are at the cutting edge of modern soldiering

The Regimental Family

The Light Infantry prides itself as a family "from the Cradle to the Grave".

The Regiment is a large family, with Regular Battalions, TA Companies, Army Cadet Detachments and Regimental Assocation Branches across the whole country.

The First Battalion (1 LI)

Currently serving as an Armoured Infantry Battalion in Paderborn, Germany.  Equipped with the Warrior Armoured Fighting Vehicle.  During the war with Iraq, the Battalion had elements fighting within the 2 RTR Battle Group.  The Battalion returned to Iraq between October 2003 and April 2004, as part of Operation TELIC 3 and is now back in Germany.

The Second Battalion (2 LI)

Currently based in Edinburgh as a Light Role Battalion.  Previously the Battalion was based in Cyprus and deployed to Iraq in the Summer of 2003.  From its base in Scotland, the Battalion will support operation in Northern Ireland and elsewhere in the World.
