The LEC Training Wing was oficially opened on the 1st of October 2001 by the Civil Secretary.
The Training Wing was setup to train those in positions where a responsibility exists in
Human Resources Management of Locally Engaged Civilians (LEC) working with British Forces
Germany.
This includes Military, United Kingdom Based Civilians and indeed LEC themselves.
Herford was chosen as a venue for the Training Wing primarily because of its central location and the
proximity of the majority of LEC within BFG.
The term LEC refers to Locally Employed Civilians. LEC can be broken down into two main types.
The first type are Dependants (DEP) who are spouses and children of serving personnel or United
Kingdom Based Civilians. The second type are Directly Employed Labour (DEL) who work on the
German economy for the British forces.
