Current Operations

Ireland Map

The King's Own Scottish Borderers Battalion are currently serving in Northern Ireland. Based in Lisanelly Barracks, Omagh, the Battalion is deployed on a 21/index.htm2year residential tour. A residential tour has the considerable advantage of enabling soldiers to deploy accompanied by their families - an opportunity appreciated by most soldiers

Whilst operations in Northern Ireland are less intense than they were in previous decades, this brings with it a whole collection of new challenges for soldiers of all ranks. Operations in Northern Ireland also provide soldiers at all levels of command with valuable experience.

Day to day operations in Northern Ireland are conducted in support of the Police Service of Northern Ireland. Generally operations consist of the provision of joint patrols with the police and the manning of quick reaction forces, able to react at short notice in either armoured patrol vehicles, or helicopters.
