Adventurous Training

adv trg 2

Adventurous training is an extremely important aspect of Battalion life. It engenders the ethos of sport, with the tranferable skills of planning, decision making and control. The King's Own Scottish Borderers Battalion have travelled around the globe in the last year in pursuit of adventure and at very little personal expense to those taking part!

The strong Adventurous Training packages range from sailing to cycling, diving to rock climbing, with the chance of free skydiving in Northern Ireland for the thrill seekers.

Currently the Battalion has several highly qualified individuals to lead expeditions and also the ability to plan and conduct training courses of their own. Here is a flavour of the exercises run this year:

Ex Tour De Finn: 610 km cycling trip from Normandy to the Dutch/Belgium border following the route of  The KOSB during the 1944-45 advance into Germany. Including a commemoration of KOSB actions in a town they liberated.

Ex Alpine Finn: A rock climbing and walking expedition in the French Alp. All the soldiers that participated gained two adventurous training qualifications.

The Battalion sent 30 soldiers to the German Alps for 14 days skiing costing them less than two nights out! If you fancy very cheap, exciting travel and adventure The KOSB Battalion is a great place to be!
