Competition Riding
competion

Soldiers are encouraged to take part in shows and competitions, and every soldier who shows ability and keeness gets a chance to compete. At present over one third of The King's Troop horses take part in horse trials, hunter trials, mounted skill at arms and show jumping events in this country. The Troop has had many successes and it is a rare day indeed when someone does not come away with a prize.

There are and have been a number of well known horses and riders in The King's Troop. In the Olympic Games at Tokyo the British 3-Day-Event Team was managed by Colonel Frank Weldon (a past Olympic Gold Medal Team Captain) who used to command the Troop; and out of its four riders one was Captain Templer who was a Section Commander, and another was Sergeant Jones with his famous Troop Horse 'Master Bernard'. Sergeant Jones finally went on to win a Gold Medal in the Olympic Games in Mexico in 1968. Both at home and internationally The Troop's reputation and success at this sport is renowned.
