The following letter was sent to Chairmen of the Regimental Association Branches on 18th August.  Some helpful points have already been raised.  If any Regimental Association member wishes to contribute then please e-mail the Regimental Secretary at rhq@kings.army.mod.uk

THE REGIMENTAL ASSOCIATION OF
THE KING'S, LANCASHIRE AND BORDER REGIMENT

1. As you know, and subject to the Trustees agreement about the details, there will be a central charity for the King's, Lancashire and Border Regiment which will embrace Association business.

2. At the same time, it is hoped that the branches of the three existing Regimental Associations will wish to remain in being.

3. We plan that both these objectives can be met by creating the Regimental Association of the King's, Lancashire and Border Regiment. In our case, the Liverpool, Manchester, Ashton, Knowsley and Liverpool Scottish Branches would perhaps wish to remain as they are but as members of the new Association. The Preston Branch might wish to consider amalgamation with a QLR branch or it might equally wish to remain separate; both options as branches of the new Association. Whatever happens is up to the members to decide.

INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIP

4. However there are some administrative matters that must be resolved if the Association is to be supported effectively by the new RHQ in Preston. Each of the three existing Regiments do their business differently at the present. The QLR and the KORBR have a subscription membership. We have free membership but charge for the Regimental Journal. The effect is the same. It is proposed instead that a common structure is set up for charging for the new Association as follows:

a.    Full voting membership

An annual subscription of £10 giving:
Full voting rights
A free copy of the Regimental Journal
Free Newsletters

b.   Associate non-voting membership

No subscription:
Attendance (but no vote) at the AGM

Attendance at Branch events
Newsletters
No Regimental Journal

5. Associate Membership is created for those present members who do not wish to subscribe. It would be intended that no new Association Members would be recruited to the Association and that all new members would be Full Voting Members on payment of the annual subscription.

BRANCH GRANTS

6. It is proposed to allocate £200 p.a. to each Main branch (in our case, Liverpool, Manchester, Preston, Ashton, Knowsley and the Liverpool Scottish), on the condition that the branch joins the new Regimental Association. It is also proposed to make specific event grants to offset the cost of Civic entertainment, provided these are bid for in advance and budgeted accordingly.

7. I would be grateful for your support for these proposals. May I please have your comments by Friday 23rd September, after which I will assume your agreement.
