From front-line troops to backroom staff, everyone has their part to play in the Army.

Each job falls into one of seven job groups, all working together to make up the most effective fighting force possible.
The Army groups all of its jobs into career groups.

Combat

As a combat soldier you can be on the front line as part of a fighting force, but you can also carry out humanitarian missions in peacetime.

Engineering

Dealing with the nuts and bolts and electronics of running the Army and its hardware, from building a base to getting a tank's weapons system fixed.

Human Resources and Finance

The Army recruits and trains its own Human Resources, Finance and IT specialists to ensure it runs effectively and to support our most powerful weapon - our soldiers.

Intelligence, IT and Communications

The Army relies on information, which means effective and precise communication between our allies, soldiers in the field and those back at base. It also means listening in on enemy transmissions and acting on what we hear.

Logistics & Support

This involves getting materials and supplies from A to B and making sure the Army has the equipment it needs. This involves taking supplies across country to ensure that soldiers have food, water, ammunition, fuel and kit they need be it for a tank or a helicopter.

Medical

The Army has its own medical service which provides soldiers with the best medical healthcare anywhere in the world - in conflict, during peacekeeping operations or on humanitarian missions.

Music and Ceremonial

Our musicians tour the world playing a key part in the ceremonial occasions that keep the modern Army in touch with its past, and represent the public face of the Army at concerts and military parades.  They also perform jazz, rock and classical musical concerts with the likes of Jools Holland, Katherine Jenkins and other professional musicians.
